Ali Asgar made his debut in the mid 80’s as a child actor in the television show Ek Do Teen Char.  He made his debut as a child artist in Shikari released in 1991. He appeared in series like Neev and Dekh Bhai Dekh during his early acting years.

His transition from child artist to adult role happened in early 1990’s in 1992 romantic drama Jaan Tere Naam before he committed to the film industry.

His rise to fame reached its turning point with the soap opera Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii between the period 2000 and 2008.   Essaying the character of Kamal Agarwal, he had to play a range of emotions that proved that he had more talent than just a comedian or a stand-up comedian. His performance had earned him widespread recognition and he won several awards . Thus, he established himself to be one of the mainstays in Indian Daily Soaps.

Despite his success in drama and films, Ali Asgar’s true calling came along with comedy. He became a much-needed staple to the Comedy Circus series in which his versatility that he could display. During the same period, he also had few roles that were collaborated with Kapil Sharma.

Ali Asgar had portrayed the energetic flirtatious alcoholic Dadi in the Comedy Nights with Kapil.   The character had become so lovable and popular that he was a phenomenon known for his Shagun Ki Pappi, which meant the Kiss of Good Luck given to the guest’s artists on the show,  that brought instant roaring laughter to the show by the audience.

Comedy Nights with Kapil Sharma followed with the success of his character of Pushpa Nani in The Kapil Sharma Show, thus further showcasing his mastery in comedy and humor.

His contribution towards cinema there after started with him often playing the supporting roles that provided the essential humor and comic timing in the scene. Though his main domain still is the television, some of his popular films that he had essayed are Prem Aggan in 1998 in which he plays the role of Bobby, in Josh 2000,  he was 2B,  Jodi No in 2001 he is the Newton, Tees Maar Khan in 2010 release, he is Burger and in Pagalpanti in 2019 Ali essays the role of Jitu.

Apart from television serials and few films that he gained popularity from Asgar participated in Reality Shows like Zara Nachke Dikha and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10, where in he showed off his dancing skills as well and additionally he is a talented voice over artist, having lent his voice to several animated projects in domestic as well as in international films dubbed in Hindi.

Ali Asgar’s most recent films include Pintu Ki Pappi released in 2025,  and Love Karu Yaaa Shaadi in 2025 and he appeared in a Marathi film Navra Maza Navsacha 2 released in 2024 and in the film The UP Files in 2024.

Ali Asgar has won numerous awards from the ITA ( Indian Television Academy Awards and the Indian Telly Awards for Best Actor in Comic Role category.

Beyond his trophies and awards, Ali Asgar has a legacy that has defined his work and the ability to reinvent himself with every role that he essays.  Whether he is playing a role of a serious family or an old comedic boisterous flirtatious grandmother,  Ali brings dedication to his work and has earned respect to be one of the finest actors across the globe and is loved by the million viewers.
