Kaantha (2025) is an upcoming historical thriller film by director Selvamani Selvaraj. It features Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse. The story follows Chandran, an ambitious actor whose bond with his mentor Ayya begins to fracture during the making of a landmark film. As creative control changes, their relationship is put to the test by ego, betrayal and different ideas.
In Madras in the 1950s, Kaantha follows Chandran, an ambitious actor who is being taught by the famous director Ayya (Samuthirakani). During the making of the first Tamil horror movie, which was originally called Saantha, their once-trusted relationship falls apart. When the female lead is promoted to a central role, Chandran takes over creative control, changes the name of the project to Kaantha and which leads to a fierce clash of egos and artistic vision.
Set against the colourful backdrop of Tamil cinema's golden age. The story looks at how admiration can turn into rivalry, and how creative vision and personal ambition can clash. Chandran's rise to fame comes at the cost of betrayal and loneliness, which makes him choose between loyalty and legacy. The movie explores themes of power, art and emotional isolation with the help of a key actress (Bhagyashri Borse) who is stuck in the middle. When mentorship goes wrong, ambition is called into question. The real price of fame becomes clear and moral issues come to light.
Kaantha will be in theatres on September 12, 2025. It talks about ambition, ego and betrayal. The movie will come out in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Netflix will be able to stream it once it opens in theatres. People were given a taste of the story's depth and how much it resembles an old film in the recently released teaser. Because of its original plot and compelling characters, Kaantha is already receiving a lot of attention. It looks like it will be among the year's most thrilling films.
