Under the S. P. Muthuraman’s direction “Kazhugu” is an action film from 1981. It has Rajinikanth, Rati Agnihotri, Sangili Murugan and Thengai Srinivasan. The film centres on Raja, an atheist who often clashes with his brother, a devoted follower of a godman. Constant stress results from their convictions. But when a tragedy occurs, hidden truths come to light, shocking everyone and turning their world upside down.

Wealthy diamond magnate, Satyamoorthy, shares a home with his brother Raja and daughters Radha and Chitra. While Raja does not, he trusts saints and priests. Satyamoorthy brings a phoney priest to do ceremonies at his house one day. The priest is a thief and discovers Satyamoorthy's secret treasure. Though Raja combats robbers at night, he saves the treasure. Still, Satyamoorthy thinks it was the priests' blessing that safeguarded them.

Later, Raja mistakenly enters a women's toilet and Hema, a young woman, charges him. Wrathful Raja lies to Hema's father, saying he loves her. Hema says she was frightened because someone once tried to harm her. Raja apologises and they marry and fall in love. Satyamoorthy presents Raja with an RV for his wedding. During their trip, they run across Vasanthi, a young village girl. Raja witnesses her being murdered by a covert organisation one night. Though he says it, she left no evidence of her existence. Raja probes and unearths the leader, Rajarishi, a conman scheming to perform human sacrifices for wealthy people. Radha is also a victim. Raja rescues her just in time. After a fight, the police arrest Rajarishi and his gang, and the family is safe again.

"Kazhugu" captivates with a fast-paced plot and a series of surprises that keep the audience on its toes across its entire running time. Themes of faith, lies, and bravery share the screen as it never sacrifices emotional integrity, even as it showcases brilliant moments and exhilarating scenes, it delivers a compelling experience that leaves a lasting impact.
