“Sembian Madhavi” is an interesting action thriller script written, produced, and directed by Pathmanaban Loganathan under 8 Studio Film Production. Amsarekha Radhakrishnan and Pathmanaban Loganathan directed the movie, which explores themes of love, caste violence, and justice.
The story follows “Mathevi” (Amsarekha), a young woman who falls in love with “Veera” (Pathmanaban), a man from a different caste. Their love meets severe opposition when Mathevi’s stepfather, with his aloof attitude on account of caste, comes to know of their relations. As their love deepens, Mathevi becomes pregnant and requests Veera to marry her. Meanwhile, external tension caused by caste discrimination, threats from their families, and very little room to manoeuvre present many dangers for the couple.
The movie also weaves in the narrative of a Dalit youth killed in 2004 in Sembiyan, Tamil Nadu. His father struggles for justice for more than a decade, but the murderers are not caught. The link between Veera's love and the earlier murder is made in sensational twists, revealing the beastly face of caste tyranny.
Director Pathmanaban Loganathan offers an emotional and poignant account of situations, interweaving real-to-life incidents with unflinching romance. The film never holds back on the tough realities and hence an intellectual man's cinema. With outstanding performances and strong message, “Sembian Madhavi” is a film for all such individuals who have a penchant towards socially conscious cinemas.
