Directed by Rajasekhar, "Thambikku Entha Ooru" is a 1984 com-rom. Starring Rajinikanth, Madhavi and Sulakshana. The story revolves around Balu, a happy-go-lucky and daring young man. To teach him a lesson in responsibility, his father ships him off to a friend’s house in a village. That all changes when Balu becomes the victim of a love triangle.

Balu, a devil-may-care playboy, is dispatched to Uthama Palayam by Chandrasekhar to gain some discipline. Balu has to be employed for a year and hide his identity. In the village, Balu settles in, becoming like a member of Gangadharan’s household. He conflicts with Sumathi, a haughty, rich girl who believes Balu is a poor villager. Now that Balu has fallen for Sumathi, her father calls off the plan to marry her off to a rich chap's son, so they try to kidnap her. Balu saves Sumathi and delivers her to Azhagi and her groom.

The suitor double-crosses him, returning Sumathi to the wicked hubby and son. Balu trounces the son-in-law and delivers Sumathi back to his dad. Balu learns hard work and discipline from Gangadharan and leaves the village. Sumathi and her father come to Balu’s house to talk about their future, only to find Balu changed and serenading her dressed in a tuxedo.

"Thambikku Entha Ooru" mixes comedy, drama, and sentiment with ease. Framed by an energetic village setting, the movie dives into coming of age, finding yourself, and romance. Its wry script and colourful characters maintain the fun throughout. With the right blend of humour and sentiment, the film provides a fulfilling movie experience that still resonates with old-school Tamil cinema buffs.
