Telangana’s SR Nagar police on the basis of a written complaint have registered a case against hero Vijay Deverakonda under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for his derisive comments made at the ‘Retro’ audio release function at Hyderabad on April 26. Attorney Kishan Raj Chauhan, president of the Tribal Lawyers’ Association, accused the actor of having committed a historically illogical analogy for comparing terrorists to “fighting without brain, like tribals used to fight among themselves 500 years ago.”
Vijay Deverakonda faces SC/ST Act complaint over a remark
Actor Vijay Deverakonda apologised for using a term that sparked controversy among tribal communities, clarifying his intention was historical, not referencing India's scheduled tribes. He expressed respect for Native tribes and regret for any ambiguity caused.
Police act on Deverakonda’s alleged caste remark
A broad coalition of tribal organisations celebrated an apology. Police claim further actions will follow the City Attorney's direction. The case highlights the need for sensitivity towards vulnerable communities in public discourse.
